Offers, emails and birthdays
Which emails you always get, how to choose whether you hear about offers, how to unsubscribe, and how birthday greetings work.
Emails you always get
Some emails are part of using your account, so they always arrive:
- Your welcome email and order confirmations
- Shipping and delivery updates for print books
- Refund notices
- Sign-in codes, password reset links and password change alerts
Everything else is up to you.
Offer emails are opt-in
We only send offer emails to readers who ask for them. The box for offers starts unticked when you create your account, whether on the sign-up page or at checkout. If you leave it unticked, you won't get offers.
If you do turn them on, you will hear about sales, holiday collections and new books, twice a month at most. You never get the same offer twice.
Change your email settings
- Open My Library and go to the Account tab.
- In the Emails card, tick or untick Offers and new releases and Review requests.
- Select Save email settings.
Review requests are a single email about a week after an order, asking how the books were. The Reviews and ratings guide has the details.
Unsubscribe from offers
Every offer email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Selecting it opens a short page that asks you to confirm; select Unsubscribe and you are done. The extra step is there because some inboxes open links automatically to scan them, and that should never unsubscribe you by accident.
Many mail apps, including Gmail and Apple Mail, also show their own unsubscribe button next to our offer emails. That works in one click.
Unsubscribing stops offer emails and birthday greetings. Emails about your orders and account keep arriving as usual. Changed your mind? Tick Offers and new releases again in your account.
Birthday greetings
You can tell us your birthday in the same Emails card. It is optional, and we only ask for the month and day, never the year.
- On your birthday, we send you a greeting. You get one a year.
- If your birthday is 29 February, you get your greeting on 28 February in years that aren't leap years.
- Sometimes the greeting comes with a small gift of store credit in your BooksOasis wallet. The email tells you how much was added, and it comes off your next order automatically.
You don't need to turn on offer emails to get a birthday greeting. If you unsubscribed from offers in the past, saving your birthday counts as asking for the greeting again.
To stop birthday greetings, set the month and day back to empty and save, or unsubscribe using the link in any of our offer or birthday emails.
Closing your account
If you close your reader account, offer emails and birthday greetings stop, and your birthday is deleted along with your other personal details.
